The numbers do represent a series of numbers with a mathematical equation. We have called it the Valenzetti equation. This may be the fictitious version but there is a pattern in the numbers:

It is more and more appealing to my idea that they are in some kind of "Total Recall" (old movie) type of mind escape to become mentally self-actualized.
This would explain why Desmond was bouncing around in memory.
There is mention of "anti-aging" and prolonging life.
Wouldn't any powerful mogul want to own something that would allow them to be immortal?...
