The rewatch, for me, is all about Locke. I am fascinated by him and all of his actions (especially his fearlessness concerning Smokey) and my heart just breaks for him the 2nd go round. He became such an easy character to hate once he became Flock that I forgot what a sweet, dare I say "lost" soul Locke was. The poor man just wanted to belong and find a place where he fit. It's heartbreaking really.

I agree. If the story was about any one character it was John. He and Ben were two of the most complex TV characters ever written.

Agree with you and Boutte both - Ben so important in the end because of what there is to say for redemption, and John ... oh, John Locke! What a tortured soul who never ever wanted to hurt anyone or anything, good to the bone, receiving absolutely nothing in life but a kick when he was down, totally confused and at a loss for explanation as to why he had "failed" at everything.......then turns around and smiles at the person who murdered him, saying, "If it helps any, I forgive you." That's what Jesus would do.

I have to say that the most disappointing part of the rewatch for me is Ben, and I don't mean disappointedin his character. It's just that, knowing how Ben's story goes and his place on the island, he's just not intimidating and mysterious like he was in such a HUGE way the first go round. He is and always will be tied with Locke in my heart & mind as the best tv characters ever created but I miss being surprised by his crazy, evil antics during the rewatch. I just watched the episode with Sawyer's fake pacemaker and it just wasn't climactic at all like it was the first time. Bummed me out!!

Obviously, the LOST producers need to get together and start changing the storyline for everyone re-watching the show. The big trick, of course, is to keep the entire operation completely secret so that someone who thinks he knows exactly what is going to happen suddenly jumps up and shouts - OH MY GOD - THIS TIME SHANNON REALLY SHOT LOCKE IN THE HEAD!!

I found an interesting little tell, I think. In Season One, Disk Four, Episode One, Locke and Boone are going to the Hatch to "stare" at it and try to figure out how to open it. Boone had just confronted Sayid about staying away from Shannon. Locke tells boone not to antogonize him, "we are going to want him on our side". At this point there are no "sides" there is nothing that he could have been talking about other than future events. Its very interesting.
