Except that this was precisely the time when the island moved to a new location.. I'm not sure I could buy into that theory.
But, that is how Penny found it. Remember when Des turned the failsafe key and it released the massive dose of em, Penny's crew in the arctic or where ever, picked up the blip on their super-duper radar. It did not give the exact location, no, because Penny said she had been searching for the island. In fact, her boat was called Searcher.
I figure the same thing has to apply to everyone...especially her daddy.
Jacob knew that Desmond would be key to killing MIB. He would have used Desmond himself but A) he was a man of free will so couldn't really manipulate Des into that situation, and B) He loved his brother too much to kill him after all these years. So in the end he set things up so that Jack would get Des to do it and resolve the problem once and for all.
It's not a good answer, I admit. Maybe one of the other's here has a better one.
That's what I assumed when I watched it. I also think Jacob basically said he wouldn't kill him because he was his brother, not necessarily couldn't.
Either that or Desmond was another person who could see the light, so his presence was also a backup plan in as much as he was a random element outside of the two groups, but with a conscience to do the right thing.
I'm waiting for some help on this still... CS at the hospital
Actually Jack wasn't on anything at the point CS showed up... He got a script for clonolpham (sp?) much weaker than Oxie right after he saw him, that started his downfall, but he wasn't on anything yet... Try again..

Widmore had already sent the freighter to the island before. He knew where it was at that point. When jughead detonated or at least caused the massive release of em on the island Widmore found it the same way. Or even when John Locke turned the FDW because it causes the same type of massive release of em. The release of em makes the island appear briefly in spacetime and so just as Penny's group in the arctic found it so did Widmore. Did that make sense?
I think the island was hidden, in the same kind of way that Richard couldn't kill himself. So the EM release made it temporarily visible on radar, but only for that short time
Locke turned the wheel in the past though, the island may have existed outside of spacetime after Jughead (which I believe) but I can't see how it would appear on radar in all times after that.
Again, I guess a lot of it depends on how you interpret the consequences of Jughead.
